Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The article uses the MJSSH Journal template.
  • The submission file is in word format - Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx).
  • All figures and tables captioned.
  • Manuscript has been ‘spell-checked’ and ‘grammar-checked’.
  • References are in the correct format for this Journal (APA 7th edition citation format followed).
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • Corresponding author must ensure that all listed authors have received and approved the manuscript prior to submission.
  • Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH) uses the iThenticate software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. Any instance of content overlap is further scrutinized for suspected plagiarism according to the publisher’s Editorial Policies.

Author Guidelines

Authors are highly advised to read the Author Guidelines in preparing their manuscript according to the MJSSH's specifications to ensure smooth submission process.

1. Manuscript Submission Overview

1.1. Types of Publications
Manuscripts presented to the Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH) must be original works that are not being reviewed by other journals and have not been published elsewhere. The journal primarily considers the following types of articles for publication:

  • Original Research
  • Review

1.2. Accepted File Format
Authors are encouraged to utilize the Microsoft Word template provided on our website for manuscript preparation. The MJSSH only accepts Microsoft Word (MS Word) type of file format. Refrain from submitting your manuscript as a PDF file.

1.3. Language
Manuscripts should be submitted in either English (UK or US) or Bahasa Melayu. They must be clearly written and formatted appropriately. Authors who are not native English speakers should ensure their manuscripts are reviewed by an English-speaking colleague before submission. Be aware that manuscripts with numerous language errors are subject to rejection.

2. Manuscript Preparation

Prepare your manuscript in a SINGLE file following the arrangement of the sections: Title Page Information; Manuscript (Main Text)

2.1. Title Page Information
All submissions must have a title page including the following information in this order:

  • Title of article - Concise and informative. 
  • Author names, Affiliations, Email and ORCID - All accredited authors’ names must be correctly spelled, written
    as the published author name in a single line. Present the authors’ affiliation addresses accordingly below the names of the authors. Provide full postal address without any abbreviations. Indicate all affiliations with number superscripts. Provide each respective authors their email address and ORCID. 
  • Corresponding author - The corresponding author must be clearly indicated with an asterisk (*) in front of the author’s name. Only one (1) corresponding author is allowed

2.2. Main Text

Authors should use Cambria, 12 pts, throughout the manuscript. All text should be single-spaced.

Subheading 1.1.1 

An original paper should be composed according to the following sections in the particular order:

  • Abstract – Executive summary of the manuscript which includes the specific aims, brief description of method, main results and conclusions in a single paragraph. No references should be included in the
    abstract. Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided but if essential they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself. 
  • Keywords – A minimum of 3 and a maximum of only 5 words allowed indicating the essentials of the
    research work.
  • Introduction – A brief literature review and previous relevant work with references. Include the objectives of the research work at the last paragraph clearly. 
  • Methods – Precise methods should be described to ensure reproducibility. Published or known methods should be cited correctly and if, there are any modifications, it should be noted. 
  • Results – Clear and concise. Presentation of results with tables and figures may improve its clarity. Avoid presenting repetition results in writing and in the form of tables and figures. 
  • Discussion – Explains the significance, impact and consequences of the results. Results and discussion may be combined or separated. 
  • Conclusion – It is not mandatory. However, if discussion is too long, authors are advised to provide a conclusion to sum up of results interpretation with suggested recommendations. Avoid repetition of the points made in the preceding sections.
  • Ethics Approval and Consent to Participate - Please indicate whether the research has received ethics approval and whether participants have consented to partake in the study.
  • Acknowledgement - In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author contribution or funding sections.
  • Funding – Indicate any source of funding
  • Conflict of Interest – This section is required for all manuscripts. If there are no interests to declare, please use the following wording: “The authors declare there are no conflicts of interest” or “The author declares there are no conflicts of interest”. 
  • References – All references in the text must be listed in the references section with the names of authors, arranged alphabetically. It is the duty of the author to ensure all references cited to be listed, COMPLETE and
    ACCURATE without ANY LOSS of information required by the Journal. Please ensure all references cited within the text must also be present in the reference list (and vice versa). MJSSH recommends using the APA (7th ed.) reference format.

2.3. Tables 

Tables should be numbered sequentially both in the text and within their respective titles. They must be inserted into the main body of the text near their initial citation and numbered according to their sequence of appearance (e.g., Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Tables should not be submitted in formats such as images, Excel files, PDFs, etc.

2.4. Figure 

Figures should be numbered sequentially both in the text and in the figure captions. They must be inserted into the main text near their first mention and numbered according to their sequence of appearance (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). The preferred file formats for figures are JPEG or PNG.

2.5. Footnotes

Footnotes should be kept to a minimum. They should be numbered in the text indicated by superscript numbers and kept as brief as possible.
