Peer Review Process

Peer Review Policy

The Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH) utilizes a single-blind peer-review system. In this system, the reviewers know the authors' names and affiliations, but their reports to the authors are kept anonymous. The single-blind peer review is a traditional model that is well-known within the academic community and is favored by many reviewers for its ability to streamline the review process.

Peer Review Process

1. Manuscript Submission: Authors submit their research articles to the journal, after which the Editor in Chief assigns the manuscript to the Editor for further handling.

2. Manuscript Check and Selection: The editor conducts a preliminary technical review of the manuscript to verify that it is free of plagiarism, consistent with the journal's objectives, and meets the essential requirements.

3. Manuscript Reviewing Process: Manuscripts that clear the preliminary assessment will be evaluated by two independent reviewers. These reviewers are selected based on their expertise, relevance to the manuscript's subject, availability, and absence of any conflict of interest. The peer-review process is conducted using a single-blind system, where the reviewers are aware of the authors' names and affiliations, but their reports to the authors remain anonymous. Reviewers use a review form provided by the Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (MJSSH). They will provide feedback and recommend one of the following actions: Accept, Request Revisions, or Reject.

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript on the following criteria: relevance to the journal's scope, originality and sufficiency of the results for publication, technical accuracy and error-free content, clarity, conciseness, and organization of the presentation, informativeness of the abstract including content and conclusion, quality and clarity of the illustrations, and the overall language quality suitable for publication.

4. Notification of Manuscript Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection: The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision (Accepted, Revisions Required, or Rejected) based on the comments from the reviewers.

5. Paper Revision: For manuscripts requiring revision, authors should submit the revised manuscript by the deadline provided by the editor and include a response to each reviewer's comment. After making the necessary revisions, the author must resubmit the revised manuscript to the editor. If the editor and reviewers are satisfied with the revisions, the editor will notify the author of the manuscript's acceptance for publication.

6. Final Editing: The production stage encompasses copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, and scheduling the accepted paper for publication. The author's continued participation is crucial at this stage to ensure that any amendments made do not compromise the integrity of the manuscript's content or its readability.

7. Galley Proof and Publishing Process: Upon the final editing, the final proof of the article in a PDF file should be sent to the gallery for proofing before being scheduled for publication. Upon publication, a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is registered for the paper, and the paper is made publicly accessible.
