Abstract

Extinction of languages has encouraged many relevant stakeholders to seriously consider actions to preserve languages in danger, especially heritage languages.  With the ongoing efforts in preserving heritage languages that are greatly exposed by language shift in the family domain, this paper looks into the role of technology in further ensuring language maintenance of heritage languages that are exposed to extinction.  The research literature focuses on heritage languages preservation, followed by the use of technologies in the preservation of heritage languages.  Next, case studies of success stories in terms of using technology to ensure the maintenance of heritage stories are discussed.  Finally, the paper concludes with recommendations on enhancing the use of technology in heritage language preservation.
