Parental Support and Career Decision-Making Difficulties: A Chain Mediation Model

Abstract

ainst the backdrop of career development among Chinese college students, this study explores the influence mechanism of parental support on career decision-making difficulty, with a focus on examining the chain mediating role of positive psychological capital and general self-efficacy. Method: A questionnaire survey was conducted online among 245 college students in Guangxi. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to test the research hypotheses. Results: (1) Parental support has a significant negative impact on career decision-making difficulty; (2) Parental support can significantly and positively predict psychological capital and general self-efficacy; (3) Both positive psychological capital and general self-efficacy can significantly and negatively predict career decision-making difficulty; (4) Positive psychological capital and general self-efficacy play a significant chain mediating role between parental support and career decision-making difficulty. Conclusion: Positive psychological capital and general self-efficacy exert a chain mediating effect in the influence of parental support on career decision-making difficulty.
